Sound the trumpets – Saul is “El Rey”
Mexican music is like a fever, a beautiful art that gets in your blood. Once it gets inside you, it grows and grows.
Meet Saul Ezqueda. He is a Mariachi. Saul started playing music at age eight in his hometown of Zacatecas. He began by making his own instruments with wood and sticks. Saul now plays in East Los Angeles. He stands on street corners and in plazas searching for work.
While watching this video I was drawn to Saul’s music, his passion and his way of life. This is very evident. For Saul, music takes away his problems and pain. He recognizes this lifestyle is not a stable one but never does he allow this thought to take away his true love. I respect for him this. It’s hard work. To be a good mariachi Saul knows he must be disciplined and give his heart. Saul’s story is the life of a musician. There are lows and highs but Saul will die playing his trumpet.
